Plum is next generation of interactive television which provides many new improvements and possibilities in comparison with standard television.
WHO CAN USE PLUM INTERACTIVE TV?
Telco’s (xDSL Technologies), Cable providers (HFC, FTTx Technologies), Interent providers (Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G), DVB providers (DVB-C-C2/T-T2/S-S2), CDN providers, Broadcasters, and any other companies which need possibility for recording video content, streaming video content to many households and so on.
It doesn’t matter which delivery infrastructure is used, Plum can be implemented on any of them. Only difference is in providers choice for offering IPTV or OTT service.
Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is using closed, proprietary, fully-provisioned networks which are accessible within unique provider.
Which will say that IPTV is used in private networks which are not accessible from outside. Transport streams are delivered within that private network and only End User Devices (SBT’s) which are provided by the provider can have access to that services.
On the contrary, OTT (Over-The-Top) is quite similar but with small differences. OTT, sometimes called Internet TV, deliver audio, video and other media over the unmanaged network (Internet). End User doesn’t need any more to subscribe to traditional cable or satellite TV to use OTT because it is delivered over the open network and all that he need is Broadband connection.
